  • Big, powerful, balanced, amazing fruit, silky, smooth, and a blend of spices. One of the finest wines I have ever had. Very dark in the glass, the smell literally filled the entire kitchen during the decant, and the nose is intoxicating. Wine should be this good. I rate it 100 points because its that perfect and good. I think people have trouble giving 100 points because they feel they can only give 1 bottle in their lives 100 points but thats not how it works. Many bottles you drink may be worthy of a perfect score.

It was so powerful on the first sip it caught me off guard. I absolutely didn't expect it to be this much. The only other wine I have had that was this powerful and balanced at the same time was an 82' Petrus.

Also this was a purchase direct from the winery and stored perfect since.

  • Zachy's Wine Auction - Winter 2014 (Smith & Wollensky (48th & 3rd Ave)): Let me first start with a wow - this wine was just fantastic and I am very glad we have three bottles in our cellar and would happily have been in the bidding for the 3 more on offer at the auction yesterday if I hadn't had to step out. Started off much more closed down and less approachable than the Hundred Acre, but only took it maybe 20 minutes to come around. I think it was drinking @ it's peak around an hour after opening although still lots going on 4 hours later. Coffee, cinnamon, currant. The fruit is just a hint of flavor in the overall wine. Great earth. It's so wonderful and beautiful and if I called the Solaia elegant this is another level of that. It was a show-stopper.

  • At Tom and Susan's farewell dinner. Last wine of the evening, popped and poured, drank over only about 30 minutes.

Really great right out of the bottle. dark color, no signs of aging at the rim Cherry, cedar, earth on the nose. Black fruits, cassis, currants, stewed plums, spice, smoke. Rich mouthfeel. Didn't get the heavy alcohol other tasters have noted. Finish was long and layered, with black currant, savory meats and a charred/smoke on the aftertaste.

This was probably the group's favorite against some pretty heavy competition this evening - 01 Shafer, 00 Bond Vecina, 01 Hundred Acre - This wine is still very young, great now but would wait another few years before trying again. As good as it was, a healthy decant would be advised....

  • Dinner with Ann Colgin (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Translucent, almost transparent purple/ruby colour. Nose is lovely....velvety and very rounded. The palate carries the 15% alcohol very elegantly. Lovely freshness combined with beautiful depth of berried fruit. Just a touch hot on the finish. My first Colgin wine and a great way to start.
