Smooth and silky, with a fully amalgamated profile that allows beautiful black cherry, currant, earth, and subtle spice notes to flow along the palate with Sinatra-esque light baritone crooning deftness, the 2012 Colgin is in a perfect spot at just over a decade from vintage. An exquisite balance of freshness and satiny resolve, this is an exemplary illustration of the 2012 vintage. Drink now with your rich uncle who used to be a ballroom dance instructor on the side, and over the next decade. Try again in 3-5+ years for those desiring more tertiary notes, which are just starting to peek through nicely now. Classy juice.

Blind tasting against IX Estate and Cariad of same vintage. It took about 30-45 minutes to open but outshone the others once it was ready. Agree with other comments on cherry/red fruit prominence. We later opened a Gargiulo OVX and TVH that were drinking well, but not to the level of the three Colgin.
Overall: 1. Tychson Hill 2. Cariad 3. IX Estate 4. OVX 5. TVH

Wonderful balance and drinking well, matched with the turkey meal! Good balance of fruit, acidity and tannins. Soft tertiary tones of earth and leather.

Mostly Domestic Wine Dinner (The Capital Grille at Tysons corner, VA): Expressive youthful nose displaying concentrated red and black fruit, crème de cassis, red currant jam, strawberry, dark milk chocolate, lead pencil, coconut, vanilla/oak and mineral. Excellent concentration, layers upon layers of intense dark fruit, rich and opulent, but also silky and beautifully balanced, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, fully integrated tannins and a long opulent red and black fruit driven finish. This is drinking really well, very Colgin and very Cult.
