Deep garnet red. Layered nose with black currants, spiced herbs, cassis and a bit of dustiness. Medium tannins (5.5/19) with a medium to medium plus body. A bit of vanilla on the palate with blackberries, cassis and earthiness. Long finish. Drink till 2032.

Quality juice! The winemaker came from Angelus and Screaming Eagle. 2011 was not the best year for this cuvee, but this wine, so far, I've downed on my own about 30 bottles over the last 2 months. Yep. I'm doing a study on how palate changes over time with what is eaten and the state of the GI.
Basically, we never taste the same thing twice: Ever. Everything is in flux. Everything changes. The wine changes with air and age. The palate changes with food and everything else we put into our mouths and gut.
Wine tastes change with what we ate yesterday and the day before that.
So, how does this lend credence to wine reviews? It's all bogus. It's all relative. Sure, some aspects of it can be consistent and might be useful, which is why I love AG. But ultimately, it's all just BS. We like what we like. Everyone is tainted by price, by the label, and especially the word of the “experts”, except for those who put the time to really diving deeply into the stuff.
This experiment for me was really eye opening, as this wine NEVER tasted the same. Sure, it was very similar in many respects, but it NEVER tasted the same despite opening over 30 bottles almost one a day for a month.
Crushes dried leaves, herbal, not a lot of fruit. On the palate, tannin is resolved, acidicity is still high, short finish. Boring wine. Sub $20 so it is ok QPR.

Deep garnet color, translucent. Nose of dried black fruit, graphite. Taste is reminiscent of a young Bordeaux - red plum, earth. Full bodied with medium-plus acidity and strong tannins. Paired well with NY strip.

Full bodied classic Stellenbosch cab. Enjoyable but did not live up to my very high expectations for the wine
