  • Appearance - clear. Medium plus ruby. Still fairly vibrant but Slight browning at rim.

Nose - medium intensity, red fruit, cherry, raspberry, cranberry, fruit coming through but getting a bit of a synthetic smell to it. I wonder if it will blow off with some air. Like a fruit roll up. Raspberry is strongest aroma.

Palate - medium/medium plus intensity. Definitely getting fruit - more black fruits, berries, cassis, but a real strong flavor of bitter chocolate, tobacco, and earth. More of the bitter notes than the ripe fruit. Fruit tastes a bit old. Tannins still present. Medium - feel on front gums and back teeth after you swallow. Alcohol feels medium. Acidity is medium. Body medium/medium plus. It actually feels like you are eating dark chocolate with it. Finish is medium.

With air it is getting nicer. Funk on nose has blown off. On the fence about the bitterness but makes for a very interesting wine. I think we can extend out the drinking window.

I am curious what it started out as. It's a 2012. I have another bottle, it's very good value for the price. Not sure I've had a Nero like this before but they have all been younger. Is this how younger bottles develop? I do sense it's on the decline and if you see it you should drink them.

  • Clear red with purple reflexes, fast legs. Tons of tobacco and chocolate on the nose, next to black cherries or plums.
Palate: slight sweetness, acidity is low to medium, firm but fine-grained tannins. Finish is of medium-length, with tannins, sweetness and dark fruit.
    Pleasant overall.
