This is ready to roll. Attractive nose of black fruit, cassis, mocha, and soft oak is followed by a rich, full, and generous mouthfeel, with ripe tannin augmenting a shriveled, dark fruit flavor profile. It turned heavier, sweeter, and more expansive as the night wore on, which I wasn't a fan of, but still scored a solid 89.

Representative of the region's terroir, rich with chocolate, cedar and tobacco expressions. However, the presence of smooth fruit is missing and overall elegance lacking. Tannins are excessive. Still young, may improve in a couple of years.

Halter Ranch is one of the better producers in Paso. This is a cab/malbec blend which is unusual. Oddly enough, it works. Both cabs and malbecs can be very big and bold and somehow this blend is not too big but just big enough. It's still a bit young and it should improve with another two to five years but it's also good as it is now.
