Enter a dense. lush forest with dark red berries, lots of briar, black pepper and a heavy load of corpulent tannin that blends perfectly with the syrah notes at their greatest. Yes, it is not a 1990, but this wine is a stellar and rare offering. Still not quite fully ready, needing at least 2 hours in the decanter to shed some alcohol and tannin. The first taste out of the bottle was full of rich, red fruit. The syrah elements were blended so well, with the black pepper present but not dominant. Many tones of dark cherry, raspberry, earthy, foresty tones, a little moss and lots of complex, rustic yet super sophisticated notes.
Good although not as good as the 2000 Chave it was paired with. Nice dark fruit, very rich, wood started showing a bit, just a bit, much after an hour or so of air. Slightly tannic on the finish. Probably needs a couple more years.
