Champagne and Sushi (Masu, Mpls, MN): Medium plus salmon red color. Drank a gflass over an hour. Just had this a few weeks back. This was very good, maybe a tad less compelling. Sweet strawberry fruit, malt, oxidative, briary, green apple peel.

Rosy salmon color. Very little bead -- nearly still. A touch toasty, with a strong apple note on the Nose. Medium bodied on the palate. Red fruit flavors dominate (cherry and raspberry); some noticeable sweetness, but medium+ acidity helps somewhat; a hint of chalkiness emerged after being open a couple hours. This hasn't handled its age poorly (this bottle was purchased either in 2018 or 2020), but I can't say it has improved any, either: for Champagnes with this much fruit and sweetness I generally feel they benefit from an active bead, which age has taken away from this one. Will buy again, but unlikely to sit on it.

One of my favorite rose' champagnes I brought to our wine group dinner on Ciao Bella's fantastic patio! Best patio in the Twin Cities IMO & an unsung venue for well executed dishes and service. The place was as usual full, again on a Sunday. The Champagne was great with the tuna crisp.

(NV Henri Goutorbe Rosé Brut) ($66.00) All ’07, disgorged 10/10. As usual all Aÿ, 75/25 PN/CH, all ’07, disgorged 10/10. Aromas of sun-heated cherry tomatoes, and the palate is both fruity and zippy, malty and croissant-y. A markedly attractive wine, whose fruit you want to study, yet it’s so fresh and gulpable you find you just can’t. They like to bring old vintages out to taste, especially vintages with poor reputations, to show that fine wine can be made in Aÿ in even the weakest of years. Thus the excellent ’87 we tasted happily. But the real reward was a beautiful ’83, with its gorgeous essence of grownup Champagne fragrance – yet the palate was gauzy and almost crisp; an old soul encased in a child’s body, it skips to you and looks at you with basset-eyes, all loving and seeing and knowing. Then it giggles away.

Monthly Tasting Group: Bordeaux 2008 and Older (BLVD Kitchen & Bar, Wayzata, MN): Small glass. Love the red berries on this. A favorite NV. Wish they'd been open when we were there recently, but were closed for harvest.
