  • Not much nose, but the aroma is perfumed. An integrated wine with a satisfying taste flash of berry. Nice.

  • Prior bottle was less than a month ago, but considering how it showed, wanted to open this sooner rather than later and it turned out to be a wise choice. Better nose than the prior bottle with black raspberry, spices, earth and vanilla. A bit above medium bodied and at first (like the prior bottle) was disjointed, hot and seemed on the edge of completely falling apart. But after about three hours, it seemed to pull itself together (last gasp?) and showed some positive notes. Black cherry upfront, black raspberry through the middle with spice, earth and tannins behind. After the three hours open, it was starting to show some integration and better balance between the fruit and structure. But at the end of the day, this is a wine I wished I'd passed on. The first bottle showed potential, but the second one felt past peak as did this one, simply to a lesser degree. There's still good fruit here and maybe it's simply not my style but it just felt like an over-extracted, over-spiced, over-oaked pinot that didn't age particularly well.

  • Prior bottle was a bit over 13 months ago and not sure if this was simply negative bottle variation or a sign that that wine has begun to decline, but tonight's bottle was several steps below my prior one. Black raspberry on the nose, but also a stemmy, nearly burned quality that came and went. More medium bodied now with black cherry upfront and some raspberry through the middle. Based on this bottle, fruit is starting to fade noticeably. Still has some pleasant fruit upfront, but it fades and drys out through the middle. Finish is disjointed and shows some light mineral notes and earthy qualities. Possible that this bottle was flawed or somehow damaged. I have one bottle left which I will try in the next few weeks to confirm and will add an addendum here and correct if it turns out this bottle was flawed. My concern is while this may be negative bottle variation to some degree, given the fruit forward style, it's also possible this is simply in decline.

  • Intense blackfruit on the nose; black raspberry with that stemmy quality that usually denotes overextration. Between medium and full bodied (14.9% ABV) and I'm really glad I waited three years to try my first bottle. Deep black raspberry upfront, but starting to shade in some more elegant notes of black cherry through the middle. Acidity shows up right upfront which helps to balance the fruit and there's a solid tannin-based backbone as well. The fruit is still pretty intense through the middle, but the structural elements are starting to catch up and the wine seems to be rounding out and beginning to integrate nicely. There's no heat at all which bodes well for this wine turning the corner. Right now, this wine is still a bit too much fruit forward, but all the elements are there for this to evolve in a really positive direction with some additional time. No worries at all about this fading. I'll try my next bottle in Fall 2018 hope for continued positive progress. It has potential and I have patience.
