Served from magnum. Has gotten a brown rim, but is still darkish in color. Beautiful depth on the nose. Offers a floral element, similar to Barbaresco. Underneath more leather and rubber. On the palate fresh and the oak is perfectly integrated by now. The acidity lifts this wine, and the tannins are not felt, but keeps a god structure. There is a lot of spice, but combined with red fruits and a leathery depth. It offers a nice kick, and is far from dying. A truly wonderful wine by now.
After some initial concern of oxidation (wine absorbed 2/3 the way up cork, uninspired aromas upon opening) this Reserva began to show well after a 30 minute decant. A classic and complex nose of anise, sweet braised meats, damp tobacco, cherries in liqueur and chalk led to a fully evolved Rioja drinking at its prime. Velvety texture, sweet evolved dark cherry, mellow acidity and an understated, well proportioned sense of balance. Correct, if not exciting, this is still a lovely bottle of fully mature Rioja to enjoy with a meal or to illustrate to what a mature, traditional Rioja is about.
Excellent! Silky texture for a brick colour wine. Truly a terrific mature Rioja one! All spices you can be imaging: cinnamon, clove or nutmug among others. Still acid and tannins enough to be paired with food but its best destiny is, no doubt about it, a good Havana cigar. Delicious!
¡Excelente! ¡Delicioso!
