Rieslingfeier 2017; 2/17/2017-2/18/2017 (NYC): Drank at Rieslingfeier dinner - from 375 - brought by Cornelius Donnhoff. Wow. This has lots of ripe fruit, but evolving as well. apple, marmalade, candied quince, herbal notes. long finish. impressive.

AP #15. What a treat to drink this unicorn, from a vintage where Dönnhoff lost most of his crop early in the year due to frost. This is an Auslese on the label only - the palate is a powerhouse of ripe tropical fruits, candied limes, and honey with some spicy botrytis notes, as well as the faint high toned ginger/horseradish notes I find in so many Eisweins. It's immensely concentrated and rich on the palate, tremendously sweet but yet perfectly balanced with tremendous acidity cutting through the sweetness, and a finish that resonates long after each sip. A really special wine.

Salil does Chicago; 4/16/2015-4/19/2015 (Chicago, IL): #15-98, 8.5% abv. From the Bonelli cellar. A somewhat muted nose, though that just might be a function of this being too cold at the moment. The nose is intensely spicy, to the extent that this is eiswein-like. A slight bit of tropical fruit does show through, but it's very diminutive. But then you get to the palate. There's so much botrytis here, it's on the beerenauslese-level. So much fruit and density, but this is a bottle that absolutely exemplifies the ethereal quality for which Doennhoff is so rightly famous.

Delicious. Quince, marmalade, ginger, lime. Still has a long life ahead. Finish just goes and goes. One to seek out.
