We sampled from both a newly open bottle, and one that had been open for a day. The new bottle is a little tight, so needs an hour in the air or some decanting. A bit of vanilla pipe smoke and hazelnut coffee greet you in the nose. The pipe smoke carries through, supplemented by dry fruit, winter cranberry, and lightly dusted chocolate on the palate. Left open for a day, expect a darkening of the purple fruit characteristics into leather notes with candied grape and plum.

Medium (+) ruby with garnet hues. The nose is clean, youthful, with red fruit, black fruit and some floral aromas. The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity, medium (+) tannins and high alcohol. The palate is consistent with the nose. This strikes me as more of a food wine than a cocktail wine, and as a wine that could benefit from further aging. It certainly has the structure to last several more years. It is a steal at $12 at Costco, and punches several classes above its price point. Having said that, I am not a big fan of Carignane/Mazuelo and I don't think this Carignane/Syrah/Grenache blend will ever be as interesting as one with Mourvedre aka Monastrell aka Mataro.

Oxidized. Though the cork showed no signs of leakage, this was much more akin to a Port (with hints of vinegar) than a Spanish red.
