A fascinating and quite accurate description of this wine can be found in Daydrinker's comment below: "How to do a 'California Style' Chardonnay". This is a textbook blend from the creator of the now ubiquitous Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay without the added muscat, sugar and (hopefully) oak chips. A fairly accurate description of the blend can be found on the Hi-Time website here: http://www.hitimewine.net/STEELE-09-CH-STEELE-CUVEE.html. The wine has undergone at least partial malolactic, which gives it a certain (sour milk) complexity, yet it still has plenty of tropical fruit derived from the Santa Barbara County part of the cuvée. This is a wine aimed at the American Chardonnay-lover palate: a combination of oak, fruit and alcohol. If this was Mr. Steele's goal, then well done!
