On release this Syrah was dark, dense, fruity, rich, and lush, reflecting the relatively hot inland Colson Canyon vineyard versus the cooler vineyards closer to the Pacific Ocean or on higher altitude mountains. I hoped that the relatively sweet taste would subside with years of aging, but no, this 13 year old wine retains a stubborn sweet streak. Also the color is lighter with a brown tint, and the lushness had subsided. Overall, a disappointing example of how aging can be unkind to a wine.

This wine is surprisingly youthful after 13 years. Opulent notes of black plum, fig jam, and blueberries. Persistent finish and tangy acidity. Drinks above its price point.

Surprisingly, every bottle we've opened of this wine improved in terms of score over the previous tasting though the base comments were similar. Big, rich concentrated fruit in the nose and flavor with blackberries, blueberries, black raspberries, floral, licorice, and spice. Full bodied wine with a long finish.

(TENSLEY COLSON CANYON SYRAH) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-huge, dark raspberry, lots of cherry, little strawberry, TASTE-massive amounts of fruit, cherry twizzlers, jam, crazy amounts of plum, so rounded, New World at its best, huge mouth feel, GV-94

Spritz and off flavors. Flaws did not diminish with air. A dumper, unfortunately.
