French and American Wine Tasting Dinner (USA): Double decanted around 1pm and taken to a tasting dinner. Served blind alongside 2011 Mount Eden Estate Chard to a group of 12. The vast majority both preferred this wine and picked it as the French wine. A couple people preferred the slightly more creamy and oaky Mount Eden. Beautiful, lustrous medium lemon yellow color. Nose is lightly herbal and mineral with a solid core of lemon curd and ripe pear (or maybe white nectarine). Bright minerality, toasty oak, lemon curd, and vibrant acidity play on the palate in layers. Nice texture but not too weighty, more lithe. Slightly herbal note on the moderately long finish. Lovely, balanced and still full of life.
This really improved with air and when served was wonderfully balanced and smooth as silk while still being bright and energetic. 94—> 95

[Pop and pour.] Fragrant nose of citrus and minerals. Big in the mouth. Buttery but with crisp acidity. Long finish. Just at the beginning of its drinking window.

My second of 6 bottles of this...double decanted about an hour before taking to a local restaurant. Head and shoulders better than the last bottle. This exuded class and refinement and was massively complex and layered. It is a nice medium slightly golden yellow with no sign of age or oxidation. Palate pulsed quickly through multiple layers of flavor in the first sip. First some smoke, then florals, stone fruit, citrus and lightly buttered toast on the finish. Perfectly balanced and richly textured with medium+ acidity. Incredibly long on the finish. This paired great with poached scallops, roasted beats with hazelnut ricotta and roasted chicken...not so great with foie gras (not a surprise, but my wife got the seared Foie Gras and I tried it ...dish good, combo meh). Really delicious and it would appear, just coming into its own!

Light straw color. Muted nose of white flowers, citrus and green apple. Dry, refreshing acidity, light medium taste of lemon, green apple, shale. Medium body and mineral finish. Guess Burgundy Chablis 2016 (2).

Decanted 30 minutes before starting to drink. Rather pale medium yellow color. Nose has a little smoke, some creamy apricot, a little lemon pith and light toast. Very balanced with good but not overwhelming acidity (medium), also medium weight in your mouth. Fairly elegant with some green apple, crushed limestone and light lemony citrus along with a smokey moderately long finish. Very pleasant, with everything in place but not really impressive in any dimension. To be fair also not especially lacking in any dimension either. Overall a nice, well balanced Chardonnay. Not sure if this will live that long given the acidity and understated nature of the wine. I’m inclined to be drinking this over the next 3-4 years or so. Not an especially compelling QPR.
