(dinner at derek's) Oh wow, deep effusive berries, exotic dark florals and wood spices (violets, ylang?). Confection, yes, but age has treated this bottle very well - fully resolved, silky, bright, concentrated, with lifted elegance. Pure fruited, with just an edge of seductive incense. Dry autumn leaves. 10 years is looking good on this, and I wonder how it will hold in another 5. Drinking beautifully now, nothing out of place (not even the alco). Fantastic value punching well above weight.

Vanilla, old oak. Palate: mature and savoury, with lots of earthy, leathery, and medicinal, cough syrup, liquorice. Plum, blackberry, raspberry, mulberry. Cracked peppercorn. This bottle held up well. Flavors were fresh but a bit of agin was evident. Had kept this bottle to test its age-worthiness and it has done fine over the 7+ years.

100% Garnacha from 35-60 yr old, head-pruned vines on hillsides of the Moncayo Mountains at 600-700 m with limestone and clay soils. 20-25 day maceration. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aged 5 months in new Bordelaise barrels of French oak. 15% Abv. 6,000 cases. Producer: Bodegas Borsao (est. 1958 as the Cooperative of Borja, currently with 375 winegrowers and 3 wineries)
A(ccuracy)=2: Deep ruby/garnet. Full ripe varietal. B(alance)=2: Exuberant components, heady alcohol. C(omplexity)=2: Dark berry jam, plum, spices, tobacco. D(epth)=2: Robust mouthfeel. Weighty palate and finish.
Wine Tally Score [2,2,2,2] = 8/10
High octane tour de force, not for the faint of heart.

Never had a bad 'Tres Picos'. Always a firm, flavorful, berry driven wine.
