My last bottle of this venerable favorite, and I'm sorry to report that it is finally starting to decline. While still holding a lot of interest, the wine is clearly not as vibrant, energetic, and exciting as it once was. Dried cherry and coconut meat showing on the nose, and the palate reveals slightly drying red plum, dill, and leather. Tannins are still very respectable, and the acidity is as strong as ever. Enjoyable wine, but falls short of captivating.

An old favorite, but hadn't tried this in many years. I was expecting it to be quite mature at this point, but this bottle was surprisingly structured, with still powerful tannins, and a dark, brooding personality. It probably could have benefited from more extended decanting, but it still showed itself to be an extremely enjoyable wine. Can't wait to try it again in another year or two.

From magnum. Tasted next to 1996 Millennium. Similar in colour, maybe slightly more evolved. Less expressive in comparison, a little softer but layered and complex on the nose. Dried fruit, herbs, spices, sweet tobacco. A little more subtle on the palate as well - well evolved, still structured andd well defined. Very complex and open, silky and rich. Great balance and impressive length. Wonderful. Drink up, but no rush. 92-94

Boxing Day 2015 (Colorado High Country): From magnum, served as our pre-dinner red. We haven't opened a 91 mag for almost ten years, and the last was a disappointment. This was anything but. Lush silky fruit, and a wine that demanded attention. Very fine wine.

Dried fruit, spice, figs and tobacco. Palate was subtle and silky. Very fine mouthfeel with elegance and balance. So easy to like.
