  • very good fruity peppery zin. Very dark color. Wonderful bouquet of dark berries and bramble. On the palate excellent dark fruit blackberry boysenberry with nice pepper and bramble brier tobacco etc. Lots going on. Just like I prefer in my zins. Long finish with dark berries and plum with a bit of pepper and spice. Medium body. Nice balance. Not too alcoholic. Not too jammy. Excellent BBQ rib wine. Will stand up to, and complement spicy BBQ sauces. buy. Very good QPR.

  • Zinfandels (Red not white, per Liz) (Liz's): Had a small pour at a tasting. Another boring zin.

  • Ruby color. Nose: cherry jam, boysenberry, blueberry, and ripe strawberry with accents of tobacco, black tea, ginger snaps, red rose, allspice, graham cracker, white pepper, tamarind, cola, and vanilla. Medium body on the palate: boysenberry, dried red cherry, blueberry, and ripe strawberry framed by allspice, tobacco, black tea, Sichuan peppercorn, vanilla, tamarind, star anise, plum skin, cola, and graphite. Medium+ acidity. Moderate/lighter tannins. Lingering cherry/plum skin, allspice, vanilla, tamarind, graphite, and Sichuan peppercorn on the moderate/long finish. Juicy red/blue fruit with very pretty spice & leaf accents. Quite complex and a superb value. Pair with Peking duck, smoked pork BBQ preparations, cured meats/charcuterie, pan-fried pork chops, or creamy or blue cheeses. Drink over the next 2-3 years.

  • I was a little leery at the $11 price and screw cap (cork snob), but it was a very nice Zin. Typical Amador and a nice change from the Dry Creek fruit bombs.

  • A zin from yesteryear. Decanted 1:45 ahead. Very deep garnet. Nice nose of coffee, vanilla, blackberries, blueberries, cassis, a few hard spices. Full-bodied on the palate, with black fruits and wood-related flavors leading. Acid balance is toward softness. The finish is drying with low tannins. I remember the Amador Zins from the 70s, and this one is in that mode. In fact it fills that niche admirably and at a very good price point. But because I have been drinking these wines for so long (I was born in Amador), I see a this wine as a throwback to the past, which is reflected in the number. I invite others to disagree.
