Not sure about the ratings on this. Imagine drinking lemon juice from a cup of sawdust. Its something like that. It is fairly dark for a Barbera- in fact the cork was dark black. But you could smell the oak from ten feet away. Then on the palette, as others have noted, the acid is just too tart and there's no fruit to speak of. After some time in the decanter, the fruit started coming out a bit more- but the oak and acid still made it just not that good to drink. Even with food, I just couldn't take it. Maybe it will be better tomorrow?
