2012 - Last Simple one in 2012 (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, The Forum Shopping Mall, Orchard Road): Alcohol :: 13% Dark garnet core with brown rim. By far the most expressive and barnyards. However, there is this sweet cherry, currant fruits ad spices underneath to keep the wine lifted. Medium - full bodied. Entering secondary phase, with intense richness of sweet dark fruits, spices, herbs, leather and mineral. Focus and elegance. Long and intense lingering finished with long mineral, savory, autumn leaves finish.
Leo Turns 60! (It's Greek To Me): Expressive and complex nose with red fruit and a variety of spices that kept changing in the glass. Extremely youthful on the palate, with a significant oak presence. More red fruit and spice. Well balanced. Great long finish. Pleasant enough to drink now, but really deserves a few more years in the bottle.
This was served blind as part of a 1992-1996 Northern Rhone red dinner. As it turned out, no one ventured outside Guigal's lalala's from 1994 to 1996. While this bottle finished an overall 2nd, I must admit that all (seven) of us where disappointed by all the wines in absolute terms. Perhaps this deliberately tough vintage range did not produce anything good (despite the CT community's generally high grades), perhaps it was our Burgundian palates. Who knows? But I will not be buying these...
