A mostly Jura night: My contribution. On opening, this hits you with piercing acidity. Got into its stride with air as it became more balanced. The ‘08 I had previously was too oxidative, but this was much fresher and had less sherry notes (to my liking). Loved the slightly waxy texture with a saline streak. Developed into a powerful but restrained wine. Very complete, packing both punch and tension, with a sprinkling of Puffeney magic.

After tasting and contributing reviews for a few years, I'm pleased to offer up my first perfect scoring wine. Nine years on this wine is without flaw, error, or regret. I might have left it in the cellar longer if it wasn't for COVID etc. Like many, I've pulled a number of rare bottles to enjoy during these crazy times. Of all that I've pulled, this one is a true standout. It was paired with a homegrown pea and fave risotto (mid May in Sonoma County) and it performed perfectly. This wine has it all: a deep and refreshing acidity, a glossy and oily back palate that allows the wine to linger. This wine definitely had some oxidation (on purpose) but that didn't prevent it from becoming a pleasurable quaffer. Not much else to add other than that I'm thrilled to have enjoyed it and a little sad I have no more.

This is an interesting wine, but in the end I didn't find it very drinkable. It paired well with Iberian ham. The nose reminded me of moonshine, interesting flavors of sherry, without the sweetness, didn't really get the nuttiness that other people are describing. Overall was just too weird for my taste.

Decanted. Now 2 hrs in decanter. Sherry-like aromas of nuts and sea air with tart apples (almost dry cider) and lemons, and herbs. Palate has some mild oxidative notes but plenty of tart apples and citrus flavors. Nutty and mineral flavors add to the complexity. Moderate weight but not viscous. Really nice finish that recapitulate the palate in different waves. A step or 2 above since I last had this 2 years ago.

Great with ham and comte. Still young but in a good spot.
