  • This Right Bank-style blend (60% Merlot and 40% Cab Franc) is made from co-fermented grapes from the warm micro-climate of the Camp Four vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. In the glass, the wine is dark garnet offering aromas of black currant, black cherry and muted jalapeño. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with the same, black currant, black cherry and muted jalapeño, as well as toasty oak, cedar and vanilla. It has a medium-length finish and silky tannins; so, I would imbibe it now, rather than waiting for it to improve in the cellar. Unfortunately, the Santa Ynez Valley produces far too many under-ripe Bordeaux blends with a flavor profile that's a cross between a watered-down GSM and a green bell pepper salad. Fortunately, the Cross Hatch doesn't taste like these other wines, and I actually enjoyed the muted jalapeño nose and flavor. The wine can be found for as little as $26 per bottle and at that price, it has an excellent QPR. Well done!

  • A little less green pepper than the 2011 Cross Hatch; smooth, rich, exquisite, with fruity and tobacco notes. Nice finish. Excellent wine.
