Friday Walk Around Tasting at Sam's Fine Wine & Spirits, Lexington, SC 10/31/2014 (Sam's Fine Wines & Spirits, Lexington, SC): This is one of those Pinot Noir's that could really use a decant. We tried it a couple of times over about half an hour from a freshly opened bottle, and even though this 2011 has some bottle age, still tasted a young, tight red wine. The color is surprisingly clear moderate red. The nose has roses, raspberry and a touch of smoke. Very light and elegant on the palate. The fruit is precise and quick hitting black cherry, cranberry and red raspberry. The acid is where decanting could really help round things out. Gritty little tannins. Some secondary enhancing flavors like cocoa, graphite and tobacco emerge towards the still tight acidic red fruit finish.
