  • Day 2. (From Zalto Universal) From a mostly warmed-up glass. Fruity and juicy nose of peach, red and yellow apples, spice, rock candy, honey, white florals, slate and rocks. Last night the mouthfeel on this was somewhat offputting - it seemed big and burly and I felt that maybe the 10% alcohol was showing (a bit bigger than many Auslese.) But a day has done it good and I hope that by tomorrow it might be harmonious. Peach and apple, honey - still a bit big and rich but there is some good acid to provide structure, not quite lift, here. The finish still suffers a bit from the blockishness, showing peach, apple. Good length but short on elegance for now. Will check again tomorrow. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5+?/6, Finish - 4.5+?/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1+?/2 = 15.5-16+?/20.

  • Tons of minerality on the nose, almost smoky, but with ripe orchard fruits behind it. The palate lacks a tiny bit of energy that would make it great. Still a solid bottle of wine though. Just starting to show some secondary notes.

  • (From memory. Didn't take any notes) Delicious. Somewhat understated acidity, but well balanced. Friendly and easy to drink. We wanted to save some for dinner. But managed to polish off before ..

  • Tried side by side with the 2013 Spatlese #9. This is more approachable at this stage due to a rounder less acidic mouth feel. I gave it some time and drank both over a couple nights. The auslese began to dance a bit with spice, cream, and eventually some apricot notes emerging. I think I'll drink this young--it will age for sure, but I'm not that patient!
