  • This wine was the sleeper on the table. Probably the number 2 wine of the lot today. This wine had a little bit of an acidity and a metallic kind of note when it was originally opened, but I guess that's what I get for serving this pop and pour. Lots of full, purple fruit up front after this one opened. The metallic note kind of went away, and ended up showing more of an earthy tone. Not as much green or olive that you get from S American Malbecs -- definitely more luscious and purple. This one has the structure to last another few years, although I think that with a 2 hour decant (this one was gone in two hours), this one will be rocking.

  • From the Asti vineyard, this Malbec is tight upon opening originally, but given 4 hours of time in a decanter it has really started opening up nicely. At around 30 bucks, this wine has a great QPR. Pours a dark violet color into the glass, The nose is bready blueberry and purple pomegranate. The wine enters with some force. Acidic opening for the first 30 minutes, toned down to reveal a very fruity yet somewhat herbal front. The middle is where this one settles down to a blueberry scone type of note...a little sweet, a little tangy. Finish is a little bit acidic, a little tart, some fig jam. Nice wine, but not really made to be an ager. Have a couple more bottles of this that will come home soon from storage!
