Direct from the Domaine, this was a brilliant melange of bread pudding, ripe orchard fruit and spices. A beautiful deep but not dark yellow and a silky pallet staining mouthfeel completes the package. I wouldn’t buy this from an auction but if your in Beaune I’d certainly walk over the Bouchard and see if they had some more. Wonderful.

Purchased from the Domaine in May 2019, this bottle was in perfect shape, a light yellow, fresh with flowers and minerality with great persistence. When dealing with older white Burgundies, provenance makes an amazing difference.

From a half bottle. This was nice but not extraordinary. The nose had tropical fruit, pineapple and ripe melon, along with some stone fruits like nectarine and apricot. There was an oxidized note - honey and caramel, which is common in white burgundies of this age, but this one had a bit more than is ideal. The palate was nice, not super concentrated but a good balance of acid and alcohol rendering it quite easy to drink. While good, this wine pales in comparison to my experiences with Bouchard's Grand Crus including the 2002 Chevalier Montrachet and Corton Charlemagne which were both absolutely spectacular. For me, I have found that White Burgundy does get better as you go to the next level in price and ranking (ie. Grand Cru), which I can't say I've found in any other wine region besides possibly Bordeaux.

Grubby nose at first but cleaned up quickly. Not oxidized. Good but a bit caramelly and broad. Enjoyable but a bit disappointing.
