Subsequent notes on this wine from about 5 years ago. Medium-deep orange with copper tone in color. Full, forward & aromatic nose of mature, ripe fruit aromas of yellow peaches, dried apricots, mandarins, mangoes & orange rind with overtones of exotic spices & floral notes of honeysuckle, honey, caramel/butterscotch notes, minerals, ginger & a hint of vanilla. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, unctuous & lush, ripe fruit flavors of yellow peaches, dried apricots & figs with spices, honey, minerals, crème brulé & vanilla. Long lingering sweet finish. Drinks quite well at present & although it may be at or close to its peak of development, it has the fruit/structure to hold onto its present plateau of development for a few more additional years. However, at 47 years of age any further development might be minimal. Given its current condition, I could see it easily lasting until it was at least 50 years of age. Ullage was at bottom of neck; cork was intact.

1939 Cheval Blanc Dinner....despite a typhoon. (L'Envol Restaurant, St. Regis Hotel, Wan Chai, Hong Kong): Deep copper colour. Lovely nose of caramel and chocolate croissant with that baker’s chocolate I love. Palate is burnished sweet copper, really rounded, complete. Still young and fresh at one level with ripe but still fresh banana yet mature and more alluring at the next layer down. Good metallic copper-ish and bitter chocolate finish. Good, very long resonance.

Wonderful way to end the evening. Gorgeous copper color in the glass, sweetness has mellowed to a perfect level. I can still taste the apricots in my mouth the next morning....

Rich sweet wine. Still thick mouth feel. Strong Botrytis taste. This wine could hold for many more years.
