Noble rot soho, 10/6/2023, from coravin. I’ve never heard great things about Noval ‘85 (or, frankly, any Noval pre-AXA), but this was a pleasant surprise. Browning on the rim, pretty light with friendly sweetness and still quite a lot of fruit. Not overly complex/academic but very easy and happy drinking - it was genuinely lovely and exceeded expectations; I expected it to be over the hill.

Piers Vacher Master and Clerks - 1985 Graham's. substituted with 1985 Quinta de Noval, after the menu was printed. Apparently we had drunk too much Graham's 1985 at some past event and/or the gathered group had grown too big for what little we had left. This feeling was compounded by a lack of port circulating at dinner. There was plenty in the Court room afterwards, and as there were speeches only, and no entertainment, we only had Masters Mercer and Salter to concentrate on before we were reunited.

Alec Innes - This was light, with undertones of red fruit and a touch of nuttiness. It was delicious and is one of the best 85s I've had this year. I only wish we had more of this.

Mid weight and elegant. Not a typical blockbuster port but I like this style.
