This thing has more gold medals than Michael Phelps. Under screwcap it is still remarkably fresh. Some toast, cheese rind, wild herbs and grey slate aromas. Great intensity. A pure line of citrus fruit. Linear, direct, engaging and so long. A cool mintiness lingers.

Clearly still alive and delivering interest but there is a steely reticence to the fruit that tells me it cn live forever but I just wanted to see more fruit here. Picked early February which I think might be responsable for this aspect. I have seen similar flavour "restriction" in Jan to early Feb pickings across Hunter whites. I prefer a fuller bodied expression.

Semillon Lunch (Grappa Leichhardt): Bright light gold colour. The nose shows some maturity but remains fresh. The palate displays citrus and lemon grass flavours and there’s a long line of lemon twist acidity running through the palate keeping maturity at bay. Its best is yet to come RW1 18.5

From a bottle with uncertain provenance, good minerality however this one was a bit flat on the palate and the acid spine lacked the drive of previous iterations of 2005 Vat 1 that I've tried. Will put it down to poor storage and leave unscored.

This is a classic Semillon from our best Semillon region of Australia, the Hunter Valley, NSW. Now nearly 20 years old it is a richly developed white wine. Underlying roast pineapple, flinty and citrus flavours.
