This is absolutely singing after about an hour of aeration. Rustic, feral, and wild to be sure, yet also rich, ripe, thick, layered, powerful, warm, and long with plum, currant, kirsch, garrigue, cigar box, and game/animal. Terrific wine!
Our First Acker Auction (Marea in NYC): Still just a little baby, but it is drinking well now. Funky but with great red fruits (mostly currants), just delicious. For some in the group this was the WOTD. Many thanks to Miles for sharing!
Big, powerhouse wine. on the nose it started with ripe black fruit but with time showed more leather/smoke/bacon. mid is rich but very well balanced. savory tannins. Ripe but never heavy. perhaps a touch of alc on the nose but very slight. Impressive balance stood out the most to me - especially for a hot year.
Opened and decanted. Cork was good but wine tasted flawed. Poured back into the bottle and corked it. Got another and it was great right out of the bottle. Brought both to a CdP tasting and served the second bottle. Toward the end of the evening, we checked out the bottle I thought flawed and it was singing beautifully. Not up to the other bottle, but 93-94 ain't hardly flawed. (The other would be 96-97)
