Beaune theme dinner at Red House Copthorne. Tasted bind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, meidum intensity, ruby colour. Thin legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of earth and hawthorn herbs. Really austere and ungiving for the initial 2 hours. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity when it finally opened up in the glass, with flavours of fine earth, hawthorn herbs, dark red cherries, re dplums, sweet tea leaves. Long finish. Very good quality. A pretty and finessed wine, quite the elegant Volnay type in fact - which were most of our guesses. Turns out to be Pommard Pezerolles, and a 1996 at that!
J&VB with RIBBS (Brunswick House): Bright ruby, quite dense. Burgundian nose by Piedmonte palate, though the latter was probably a result of it being served quite cool. Silky, but lots of grip and good acidity. Needs time (it appears that I suggested another couple of years two years ago. Let's go for another five!). Absolutely proper, and its all there. Patience! ***(*)

Very slight bricking. Extremely delicate nose. Raspberries, cherries, earth, crowberries. The palate is lean, tight and airy. Very long. Overall the impression is quite primary, and I expect some upside here.

Tight and astringent. A whiff of cork that disappeared after a while. Still alot fruit, but lacks some vigor. Not an optimal bottle.
