An excellent example of why red sancerre (pinot noir) is not often exported. In very ripe vintages, it can be a dead ringer for a red cote de Beaune. Comparable to a modest Pinot Noir from the Finger Lakes of New York, this wine lacks the concentration necessary to play with the big boys. In all fairness, the expected price point in Burgundy allows for stricter selection. Stick with white Sancerre where the Sauvignon Blanc grape excels.
