Vintage 2012 Tasting: earthy colour intense crushed dried herb fragrance with black cherry smooth, velvety, gentle acidity and fine tannins, darker berries mainly cherry but with a strong influence of whole bunch spice and sweet earthy flavours.

Suggested rating: 82 GOOD. Its OK. Its not great. More generally, it would probably be rated 88 or 89.
Tasting straight after opening revealed a downright offensive funk. Given a good hour of air after decanting allowed the some earthy tones to emerge and it continued to unfurl over the subsequent three hours of drinking. It remained, however, a challenging drink with more mushroom and beetroot over any cherries or raspberries that might have shown up in a younger bottle.

An aged brown-copper hue. A very pleasant raspberry and cherry nose whose promise doesn't quite translate to the palate. The balance of the wine is fine and the flavours tend towards the savoury end of the forest floor, but are somewhat underwhelming. The wine is firmly in its middle age, I would be surprised to see any further positive development.

Nose is alarmingly old, dusty, and sour: a bit too funky for my liking. Notes of sour milk, red cherry, dry sherry, and white toast. Palate shows bright acidity, but it's not quite strong enough to punch through the fruit: muddled, slightly dulled flavours of cherry, strawberry, and apricot.

Not unlike the 'Stuart'; spices and acid interesting; not for the great unwashed.
