11th and 12th of 12, opened 20 minutes, perfect corks and levels, as October bottle and nice enough but limitations of vintage obvious, plateau but drink shortly. Just F given vintage (17.5).

10th of 12, splash decanted, perfect cork and level, back on form after several disappointing bottles and in some ways classier than the Taillepieds 02 (Roblet-M) on same night, no trace now of ladybird and nuance developing, even some power in mid palate (not bad in an indifferent vintage), some upside, 10+ years on this showing. F (17.5).

8th and 9th of 12, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, not too smelly, but too correct and boring and a long way from what LSG should be, fruit fading, downside, drink, G+ (15.5)......but I've found considerable bottle variation in this difficult vintage.

7th of 12, opened 90 minutes, perfect cork and level, less to it than last bottle in 17, dry tannins prevail at expense of fruit and there is a slightly odd aspect to the flavours (the ladybird issue?), sense of downside from here but I have found huge bottle variation in 04s and hopefully this is the case here. VG (16).

(Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges) Dark garnet red color; green, sous bois, padron chilli nose; tight, tannic, tart green bean, forest floor, mineral, padron chilli palate; medium-plus finish (needs 7 to 8 years, but there will be no fruit at all at that point)

Vertical Tasting of Chevillon and Gouges Nuits St. Georges Les St. Georges 2015-1990 (San Francisco): Light ruby. Strident, off putting green aromas made worse by a hint of brett. I almost had to hold my nose to taste it, and to its credit, it had reasonable ripeness and body, better than many 2004's, but the finish is clipped and charmless. And, oh, that awful nose...
