  • Soave & Brunello (Anima e Cuore): I've had a few of these over the years and it's always hit the spot- gorgeous - very much resolved and ready, but it'll stay at this plateau for a while. Spiced cherry and raspberry, baked earth, rose and crunchy autumn leaves. A subtle hint of bretty animal goodness. It has a louche self-confidence - relaxed about the fact it's a stunner. Cherry on the palate, framed by food-friendly acid and smooth, fine but present tannins, a touch of chew on the finish.

  • Continues to improve, and I don't think there's a rush to drink these. Still plenty of acidity to give the fruit freshness, nice aging but not a lot of secondary.

  • Slow oxed all day and then into a decanter for an hour before I poured a small taste. Beautiful electric ruby color. The nose jumps out with a blast of cloves, strawberry jam, and dark cherries, baking spices, nutmeg and some charcoal. Great dancing nose that recalling strutting its stuff. Full mouthful of cherries, bitter oranges but the tannins are still prevalent. I hope they recede over the next few hours as this sits.
Just an hour later - The wine had totally morph into a great drink. Not unexpected as this is my experience with decanting after slow oxed. The color has deepened to the point of opacity. The nose is still amazing (maybe the best I’ve experienced in a long long time). But the kicker is the pallet. The tannins have receded and it’s in total balance so that all the fruit and secondary flavors are revealed. The sweetness that has emerged over the top of a full mouthful of fruits. These 2010 are just getting better and better as the start to really strut their stuff. IMHO this vintage keeps amazing me. They are just starting to get into an early drinking window. I think they will drink and evolve for several decades. Tonight this wine is singing. 93-94+.

  • Possible bottle variation. Our experience was very subdued. Medium intensity. Aromas of red cherry, dried herbs but all very subtle. Not particularly defined. Medium finish.

  • Loads of cherry, very concentrated smell. Tobacco leaf, liquorice, a bit of leather, cinnamon. Mulchy, fresh wet earth. Very powerful in the mouth, rich grippy tannin, softened but with a firm core. Tangy fruit finish. Very long. One of the wines of the year so far for me. This has everything.
