This was special, and not just because it was 16 years old and still drinking well. Developed color, dark yellow turning to burnt orange. Nose was ethereal with rich, honeyed fruit and marmalade. Full and broad palate, honeyed fruit, just a hint of oxidation that lends complexity rather than a bad note. Also showed a touch of anise in the finish. This wine proves a chenin blanc from the right terroir can not only last but gain in complexity with the years. This can go even longer though it won't get better and probably is or soon will be declining. Fine wine with a good finish. 5-12-17-8: 92/100.

Still fresh and lively with only a hint of deepening yellow. Smooth, complex, lively. Paired it with a cod fillet BBQ with mango salsa glaze. The mild spice of the glaze paired beautifully with the hint of residual sugar left in the wine and the acid and mango were a perfect combination. My last bottle unfortunately. Wonderful!!

The Savennieres was good, though not great. It showed no trace of oxidation at all, the acidity had calmed compared to it's youth (I know TA doesn't change, but something does). Some Chenin wooliness, a touch of honey, green and sweet apple fruit. Not especially complex, but fresh and harmonious. Because I was looking for it, I thought I found some light asparagus notes (which some claim is the Baumard trademark), but could easily be power of suggestion (and asparagus in dish). B/B+

My experience here was consistent with nectar14, a very unusual but delicious wine. We had it as an aperitif before duck, but the last few sips we had with it and were surprised at how delicious it was together. A winner, but I don't really know how to evaluate this kind of wine.
