  • Perhaps my prior bottle was not pristine, as this is luscious, delicious, and a noteworthy addition to the extensive list of outstanding 2001 Mosel Rieslings. Zesty passion fruit, dusted with caramelized brown sugar leads the way, and then the wine expands on the mid-palate until the acidity slices through, carving a path to the finish, and reintroducing the passion fruit, this time with a tartness that clears away the Auslese sweetness, leaving just the flavor to echo into the distance.

  • Drinking impeccably well! Spritzy, fresh and fruity upon opening, but after about an hour the tertiary notes started to appear. This is, in my opinion, in its perfect drinking window right now, and will stay here for another 3-5 years. If you don't mind it turning tertiary and drier, it will easily keep another 20 years.

    Highly recommended!

  • Strong nose of lime zest, lemon tart, honey, slate, and plastic. Key lime pie and aggressive minerality on the palate. This is my first bottle from Erdener Treppchen, but it seems pretty characteristic of a red slate Riesling with dominant mineral notes. Wonderful pairing with chorizo and grilled veggies. This bottle could easily go another decade but is drinking well now.

  • 5th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, as last bottle noted in 7/15, more to it second night, long life ahead. F+ (18).

  • A very impressive wine, not only on account of its beguiling flavours of melon, honey, and very acceptable oily kerosene, but because of its structure and mouthfeel. Great depth and solidity, with all elements integrated, sweetness and acidity, and lingering flavour. Middle Mosel at its best.
