Deep colored Pinot Noir. Pretty nonchalant front end with more tannins than a normal Pinot on the back. Jammy fruits cut through the middle. Might have let this age a year too long.

quite pale at the rim Very menthol nose, aromatic Light and juicy initially on the palate Then rich and meaty towards the end, spicy, leather notes 14.5% - it's a big wine but carries its heft well

One of the hallmarks of a great winery is that even their entry levels wines are impressively and uncompromisingly superb, instead of having large gaps in quality from their top wines. The color, though not black, is very dark, and the nose is generously perfumed. Sipped, the wine enters the mouth bright, refreshing, juicy, rich, smooth, and well structured by an undertow of acidity and tannin. Flawless young, and gets only greater throughout its first decade. One advantage of the Russian River appellation is an enormous climatic variation from very cool to very warm, allowing superb Pinot to be grown every year no matter how bad the weather is, always making it possible to have ripe and rich Pinot Noir to use in a generic blend.
