Much better after slow ox'ing in the bottle for 24 hours. Really came together, heat fully dissipated, fruit jumping out. My last bottle, though - onto the 2014's

The oldest of about a dozen bottles of Jackass and Jackass Hill zinfandel from various vintages. Probably the best zinfandel I have had. Served with BBQ ribs, corn and watermelon. The Zin has a wonderful cherry focus that remains over an incredibly long finish, with notes of black pepper and spices. Just a touch of heat from the high ABV toward the middle of the finish. The commenters who compared the profile to a Brunello are on point.

Cloudy duller purple, some sediment; a lush and expressive Zin, not traditional, deep wilting violets, peppery mix, darker fruit, almost Syrah like, texture like Pinot Noir, elegant yet large scaled at the same time, exotic, intense but silken, very RRV to me, nice viscosity; tasty.

Unfortunately no formal notes taken, but there's nothing like these Jackass Vineyard zinfandels from Martinelli. This only barely resemble zins with age, and instead lean towards a bit of brunello spectrum, without the higher acidity. Surprises me still the cork isn't stained inky black but medium magenta. Real treat all the way around. Other CT rates refer to high alcohol and I felt it too. Not as hidden as say an Alban Reva syrah. Recommended. Hard to say how far out this will go, but was just about ready now. CT actually had this consume by 2022, and you might squeak a few more years out of it, but to enjoy the fruit while it's still there, I say open now.
