Interesting nose of cedar and spice with lots of camphor on the palate Has that weightlessness associated with Rayas. Not sure I'd be rushing to buy more given where the market prices these but certainly an interesting bottle.

Drank with Alfert and Frontario et. al. I thought this was great. It was instantly beautiful and ready to go right when the cork was pulled. It had a very light and clear red color and was bursting with freshness. It had juicy and delicious bright red forest fruit, and hints of dried leaves and earth. There was a neat perception of antique furniture; picture an old fruitwood commode. It was quite enticing, and just lovely.

88+ pts

1997 Pignan, Reserve, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhone, France (not blind): Very light and bright garnet, high viscosity. Slightly alcoholic nose, decent red fruit, bit of barnyard, nice earthy. Medium body, bit red fruit, soft fruity acidity, well balanced tannins - but in total not much here. Aftertaste velvety tannins and a bit of caramelised fruit. Score: 50 + 2 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87
