  • DP 64, 66, 71 and Oeno 66: A gorgeous quartet of DP. Started of with 64 and 66 originals. Both were good, but the 66 was fantastic. Interestingly, this parcel of 66 has shown very golden and mature looking, but has drunk insanely well. The 66 Oeno is a terrific champagne, but in the company of these originals it was hard for it to shine. However it really did open up, and is among my favorite Oeno's. Our final DP was a 71 original, and this was simply smoking. The best of the night, and the best 71 I've ever had.

  • Five Oeno's. The 90 Rose Oeno was our reception wine, and while young, it drank well. I've liked this wine every time I've had it, and its going to be great over time. The 69 Oeno showed very good, and time in the glass was well rewarded. Have had better bottles, but this was terrific. The 66 Oeno was the star in this setting, and most of the table liked it best. The 73 Oeno has been one of my favorites of late. This bottle showed excellent straight out of the bottle, but for me it lost a little in the glass over the hour plus we drank them. The 70 Oeno was good. For most of us it was our first crack at this wine, and was fun to drink straight off the boat. Looking forward to drinking a few of these over the next year and seeing how they show.

  • Dom Pérignon Masterclass with Richard Geoffroy at Decanter Fine Wine Experience (Landmark Hotel, London): Appearance: bright to golden yellow.
Nose: noticeably smokey and toasted notes, coffee, mocha, cocoa powder, wood, yellow fruit in the background. Very nuanced and most developed nose of all wines. The “wood” component in the nose here refers to old dry wood, more or less untreated, such as boards from an abandoned forest cottage or dried driftwood, i.e., not really the aromas of toasted oak barrels.
Palate: good concentration, yellow fruit, citrus, mineral, noticeably spicy, tannic feeling with wood, some cocoa powder. Spicy aftertaste with some mineral.
Overall impression: wonderful development, fully mature. 94 p.
