  • Full bodied, reticent red fruit, underbrush, lacking a bit of delineation and remains firm and modestly fresh. Not coming across as hard or shrill for an ‘11, but then this is still clocking in at 14.5% ETOH. Did better with time and air but still did not unfurl over the 2 days open. Not so sure ultimately the fruit will out last tannin resolution, but i would also say in 5-10 yrs I could be wrong

  • Pours medium dark red/garnet. There’s attractive cool fresh fruit on the palate, which tastes darker than it’s color, like black cherry and a mix of dark berries. Thanks to its rather broad, mineral rich acidity it’s not especially deep or dense, though things quickly perk up on its pixelated, energetic finish. Its fine grained tannins have shed most of their sharp edges, and though a bit of singe remains this never loses its elegance.

Enjoyed this quite a bit though it’s just a touch sharp. Figures to be better in a few years to tame its structure while giving the aromatics a chance to blossom.

  • This was quite floral with lots of violet, cherry, raspberry, liquorice, sandy tannins and high acidity. Instantly recognizable as nebbiolo, opinions were divided between Barbaresco and Barolo. This was great value for money, would buy again.

  • Stood up for months, decanted off sediment and tasted. Medium ruby, slightly darker than typical for Vajra but relatively consistent with Ravera, age-appropriate bricking; aromatic, darker fruits, slight charcoal, smoky, some cherry, some figs; palate is light bodied, high youthful tannins which are still somewhat drying, deeper darker fruit, medium-plus to high acidity, 14.5% alcohol comes across a touch ripe; finish is medium length. Completely different wine than when I last tasted 5 years ago, perhaps needs some air to open. 92 for now.
30 min air: Certainly integrating, tannins no longer as prominent, smoke and charcoal on the nose has integrated and disappeared, fruit is still relatively dark but starting to lighten up a bit. 93
Decanted 4 hours: Integrated, tannins now quite a bit smoother though still present, fruit and overall profile is still darker fruited but has some elegance and balance. This straddles that 92-93 line for me, just behind the Bricco this year which shows a bit more elegance and red fruitedness. I'm sure this will take another 5 years of age without difficulty, though I don't have any more.

  • Bubbles and Barolos (Serratto, Portland OR): Nose: The nose is heady and extremely fragrant and hi-toned with strawberries, raspberries, sour red cherries, herbs, violets, licorice, crushed rocks, leather, and sweet pipe tobacco.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with silky, high tannins and crisp, high acidity. The acidity has a slight bit of volatility, but it adds to the wine rather than detract. The feel is deep and refined with strawberries, raspberries, sour red cherries, herbs, violets, crushed rocks, licorice, and leather notes.

Overall: This is drinking on the young side, but there is a long way to go. This has a lot of poise, elegance, and depth that will only turn on even more with age.
