  • A blend of Garnacha Roja and Picapoll Negre, sourced from a 15-yo vineyard. Aged for 3 months in 500-liter oak barrels of 3rd use. 14,5% alcohol.

Deep, intense and quite dark translucent raspberry red color that looks more like a lighter, cool-climate Pinot Noir than rosé. Very big and red-fruited nose with aromas of wild strawberries, cherries, some freshly picked brambly raspberries, light blackcurrant tones, a mineral hint of stony dust and a subtly reductive touch of flint smoke that blows off as the wine opens. The wine is quite rich, full-bodied and intense on the palate, but not particularly fruity. The taste is very mineral-driven with pronounced notes of stone dust, some chalky bitterness and a little bit of fresh apple with lighter nuances of wild strawberries, raspberries and cherries in the background. The medium-to-moderate acidity keeps the wine nicely together and lends good sense of balance to it, but doesn't feel high enough to lend some actual freshness to the wine. The overall feel is quite ripe and substantial, but still relatively austere and mineral at the same time. The finish is quite long, somewhat warm and quite mineral, but also slightly fruitier than the midpalate with flavors of stony minerality, ripe strawberries, some black cherries, a little bit of raspberry juice and a hint of herbal spice.

A fun and tasty rosé that is surprisingly serious and muscular effort - I expected a Priorato rosé at 14,5% alcohol be very fruity, soft and sweet-toned blockbuster, but this was nothing like. Sure, the hot climate of the region is obvious in the weighty, high-alcohol style of the wine, but the overall style shows remarkably little emphasis on the fruit and much more to the lean, angular minerality and other non-fruit flavors, making the overall feel relatively nuanced and poised. A very stylish and food-friendly effort and outstanding value at 9,50€.
