Still very nice. Very reminiscent of a good southern Rhone and better than many, medium to full body, nice fruit balance. Higher priced than most Texas reds, but worth it.

Very impressive on opening with a rich, fruity bouquet. Medium bodied, characteristic GSM structure, nice complexity, long finish. This was much better than I expected. It's not exactly a copy of a French GSM, nor should it be, but it shows that Texas can make an excellent example of this type of wine.

An intense bottle. Deep garnet. Nice nose of bramble, white pepper, black cherries. Rich and tart on the palate, somewhat austere even. Currant and blueberry flavors along with some herbal notes in a medium-full, hard texture. The finish is fairly long, drying, moderately tannic. An ambitious bottle that shows an extracted style backed by very firm acids. Maybe it needs time but right now it is very intense.

My wife showed me a Bibi Chianti and the Pedernales. I told her open one and poor me a glass. Not exactly a difficult blind tasting but nonetheless, it was clear on first nose that this was the Texas wine. Now there are still a lot of bad TX wines and wineries who are still learning. To my surprise, I also found some that really get it, are learning what works in their terroir and know how to make a good wine.
Pedernales is one of them. Moderately Opaque and limpid, GSM is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mouverdre. Its a Rhone made in TX. I am a huge Rhone fan so enjoying this. The bouquet had a TX feel so that made it clear we didn't open the Chianti right away. For me, this is a bit more fruit forward then my typical southern Rhones but not overly so. The bouquet definitely does carry leather and spice mixed gently into the red fruits as Rhones do. Raspberry and Strawberry. palate follows suit. There is something slightly incomplete but I can't put my finger on it. The balance works well. Finish breaks apart a little bit at the end but you have to really focus to notice that.
