  • The cork had fallen in and was floating in the wine, but this was still quite enjoyable. Dark fruit and banana oil on the nose. Spoke with a luxurious palate, but a little faded on the finish. I expect a perfect bottle would be so much better, but this was really nice.

  • A dramatically better bottle than my last tasting experience, this hit all the right notes with its cedar, mint, dried flower, cherry, red plum, and cigar wrapper nose. Concentrated, refined, long, and harmonious, this was simply thrilling to taste. Drink from 2023-2030.

  • Another great wine dinner with Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Perfectly mature nose displaying incredible sweet mature black fruit, subtle blackberry, plum, light caramel, leather, strong cedar, black truffle, rose and earth. Perfectly integrated palate, beautiful sweet black fruit, rich but soft, fluid and warm, perfect amount of acidity and strong earthy mineral, and a seamless long generous black fruit driven finish with cedar at the end. There is something incredible when Bordeaux wines are ideally cellared for five decades or more.

  • Dinner with RC and friends (and some seriously old Bordeaux) (Duddell's, Hong Kong): Dark, almost powerful nose, densely packed with sweet crushed blackberries and a whole lot of other things: chocolate, barnyard, broccoli stems, damp cardboard, potting soil. What's going on! On the palate, there is a firmness in the medium body, fruit is still cruising though the tannins are finely faded, and there's almost no alcohol. The finish, funnily comes and goes; depending on what you just ate, it either disappears in 5 seconds, or lasts for half a minute. An amusing, amazing experience to drink.

It was a fun moment when the foil came off. RC even said when he opened the bottle earlier, he removed the capsule to find there was no cork. No cork? That's pretty crazy, I thought. Were we drinking wine that included a fully dissolved cork? But at the end of the evening, there it was, lying on the bottom of the bottle. Haha, phew!

  • A real pleasure to taste this and it showed as fully mature with an open nit and smooth texture with faded flavors of road tar, charcoal minerals and roasted nuts. Complex and smooth but it faded pretty quickly in the glass. L'Appart Commanderie dinner. 92-
