  • From magnum - Succulent dark fruit on the attack followed by a very clean / sleek midpalate & finish. Undeniably attractive but lacks the heft I have seen in other malconsorts

  • What a great wine. I am not much of a Burgundy lover, but if they were all like this one I could be convinced. We had this paired with a Pear and Pancetta crisp. It was a asuper nice wine. Out of the 3 wines opened up for appetizers it was the first one finished. New Year's wine. I would also esteem th life of this wine to 2030 ish. I did a double decant on this and it was perfect.

  • Dark fruit, and loaded to the brim with tannins. This is a hard hold for many years.

  • lots of oak, lots of structure, not much fruit - needs 5-10+ more years at least.

  • 2014 Burgundy Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): I have had a few of the recent vintages of the Clos Frantin Malconsorts recently, and they have really impressed me. Not quite approaching the absolutely top-rung of producers, but they have come a really long way in terms of quality over the years. This bottle, served blind amidst some serious company, was a case in point. It had a really pretty nose - rather blue fruited, with sweet berries, some brambly violets, and then a touch of earth and some new oak notes. The palate felt very fine, with light, lithe dance of blue fruit over wet stone, and more floral accents - roses this time. This was mid-bodied rather than full, but still showed a good persistency on a neat finish that showed a bit of earthiness and a fine blush. What really stood out for me with the lovely purity of the wine though - with gentle acidity and velvety tannins framing a really transparent core. Not a blockbuster then, but this was very fine, rather restrained, and really pleasurable drinking in its relative youth.
