I agree with Xavier, this wine has a lovely balance of complexity from the barrel ageing with freshness from the grape style. Certainly more complex than the standard version

Blind-tasted along other 9 Portuguese whites of 2013 and this one did not impress. It seemed lacking character. Will give a second try to this one, of course, given the consistent quality of this producer

Fermented and aged in new and used oak barrels, kept on the fine lees with regular bâtonnage until bottling in June 2014. This wine has been made with real sensitivity; the oak is subtle and does not dominate the inherent freshness, salinity and citric elegance of the wine but supports and adds depth; on the palate there is lovely additional leesy complexity, roundness and weight from the bâtonnage, with a lovely savoury note and juicy fruit flavours; complete finish, good length. Excellent.
