  • Opened at noon, double decanted, and then slow oxed until a half hour before drinking when I put it into the decanter. Wanted to try a different approach, giving much more air this time. It worked - any reduction was completely gone, the aromatics were lifted, bright, and truly vibrant. The palate was composed and serene. This treatment allowed for a true look at the wine - aromas almost exotic, leading my highly experienced blind tasting friend to consider if this wine could be a white rhone. That’s about the warmth of 2012 and also, apparently this producer’s wines can sometimes show a touch of botrytis. This was a lovely wine with a great nose, a nose that showed the classic Chablis notes of iodine and seawater and white flowers, but also showed other exotic elements that while lovely, are not what I think of when I think of Chablis. Maybe Les Clos is becoming a warmer plot in this age of global warming? Good wine, not a great Chablis.

  • Lovely nose upon opening, shows prominent marine, yellow fruit, and floral tones. couldn't be mistaken for anything other than Chablis. Those aromas carry over to the palate, which shows ample richness and body, good acidity and balance, and as the wine opens up over an hour or so, a long finish that has some pungency. One experienced drinker commented that the wine doesn't show the kind of minerality that she is looking for. I'm not sure that I agree, as I thought the wine was more marine than it was anything else, and I also thought that it was still growing and unfurling after 90 minutes. But who knows, time will tell.

  • From magnum, and served with butter poached oysters with caviar.

What I wouldn’t give for a few more magnums of this wine. From the seashell and citrus zest aromatics, through to the steely yet also palate filling finish, this was a delicious, entrancing wine. The food match was perfect, a “plus two” as both the wine and food were even better for the paring. There was a bit left after dinner, and several of us had another small glass. The extra air (three hours) made the wine even better, making us wish for more oysters. Magical stuff.

  • Flott nese. Moden, gul frukt. Skuffende Clos.

  • Followed over 3 days. Tightly wound and intense, but hidden, straw, slate, chalk, minerals and some high toned lemon-lime. Med-high acidity on palate and a nice balanced finish. This could improve dramatically with 3-5 more years if it opens up.
