  • At Vignobles et Chateaux, St. Emilion.

Drinks great now. Full in the mouth with great acidity. Black and red fruit. Not as compelling as stronger vintages (eg: 2016). A more rounded profile.

  • This wine still tastes and smells incredibly primary with beautiful deep black currant and blackberry notes alongside the piercing minerality all Clos Fourtet wines have due to the limestone plateau the vineyards are situated on. This incredibly subtle and delicious wine paired brilliantly with short ribs from the amazing Bicyclette restaurant. I recently visited the chateau and ordered 3 more of the 14’s so I am fascinated to see how this wine evolves over the next 2-3 decades! Overall: 93+

  • Quite similar to previous notes - I wish I remembered I had this one a while back and should have left well alone for a few more years. Didn't feel corked, but quite withdrawn and a bit austere and brooding.

  • I had the pleasure of participating in the vendange of Clos Fourtet in 1975 when it belonged to the Lurton family. We did not make such a great wine then (not my fault 21 years old). Much better now! Good colour, dark berries and a hint of vanilla on the nose, fresh. Taste medium body and tannins, cherries, fine finish with a pleasant acidity lingering in the mouth, well balanced. Look forward to more age on the wine!

  • Followed over 24 hours. Open from the start. Dark cherry, plum and thyme aromatics. Balanced cherry dominant palate. Tannins are fine grained with complementary acidity to the fruit. Perhaps a bit thin through the finish, which would be my only knock. Surprisingly restrained Saint Emilion for the era and actually quite nice. Don’t sense excess oak or heat as others suggest.
