  Wine made from grapes sourced from both old, +60 yo vineyards and some new, approx. 10 yo vineyards. After a cold soak period in old 500 liter oak barrels, the wine is transferred to new French oak barriques for fermentation and aging for 18 months.
  
  Quite dark and moderately opaque ruby color. Rich, aromatic and interesting nose with aromas of rose petals and rose hips, ripe cherry, roasted spices, sweet oak, some cloves, a little aromatic cedary wood and a hint of cocoa and milk chocolate. Ripe and full-bodied in the mouth with dark-toned flavors of sour cherry, sweet boysenberry, rose-dominant florals, some dark cherry, a little cocoa and a hint of tart lingonberry. The wine has quite impressive structure with its high acidity and rather prominent, grainy tannins; with the spicy notes and roasted wood flavors, the astringent tannins give a pronounced bitter streak to the palate. In the long aftertaste the bitterness comes even more pronounced, while flavors of lingonberry, rose hip, roasted spices, some aromatic cedar oak and a hint of vanilla linger in the mouth. The finish is quite tannic and grippy.
  
  This one is surprisingly sophisticated effort despite being a wine aged for a year and a half in new oak barrels; the oak characteristics do not dominate the wine and fit in surprisingly well. Still, the wine feels really modern and polished, and even though the unique Mavrotragano characteristics manage to cut through rather easily and the wine still sports that intense structure typical of the variety, the wine feels a little out of place with its almost new world guise. This wine is good and interesting for sure, but I would prefer something with less oak and extraction; Santorini is not Napa Valley, so we don't need another Napa-style wine from this curious, indigenous grape variety. Seems a bit overpriced at the winery at 35,20€.

  Great example of the Greek varietal Mavrotragano. Dark red, full body, a little peppery, somewhat Zinfandel like, with a long finish.

  Medium tomdark ruby. Subtle nose with red and dark cherry, redcurrants, herbs, minerality and a touch of sweet oak. Medium plus body with high acidity and excellent balance. Long finish. The oak is much less pronounced compared to previous vintages that I have tasted. Excellent wine, still a baby that should improve further and will last at least 10years.
