a 68% Semillon and 32% Sauv Blanc blend from Chateau Haut Brion the 2014 has opened up more than I expected. This was quick approachable now. If I remember correctly, the wine was decanted before being brought to the restaurant.
Very grapefruit pith, lemongrass, white flower and smoke laden wine with a bit of weight. Texture wise it had a touch of waxiness like citrus oil that allowed it to grow on the finish but with enough acidity to give it a bit of lively punch. The wine feels broad and weighty from the alcohol on the edges, but the mid palate is quite focused with energy from that previously mentioned acidity. Find these wines interesting that they get that texture without maloactic fermentation, but guess it's the grapes?

Delightful. As always, white Bordeaux, even at the highest level, is delicate and subtle. Fortunately, this one is energetic and bright with a pleasing texture. Pale yellow. Very light wax, smoke and spring flower complete the package. Surely it will grow but in my experience Haut-Brion Blanc does not age especially well so probably better to catch it on the way up in the next 3-7 years. Of course we all wish the price were not so intimidating.

Kuki'o Wine Trip 2019; 9/22/2019-9/28/2019 (Champagne & Bordeaux): [Magnum] At the Chateau and a little hard to get excited about these in the presence of the reds. More or less indistinguishable from the La Mission Blanc with a lot of grass and stone. Fresh and super clean. Stonefruit?

The mineral-driven grapefruit, lemongrass, flowers, citrus rind, honey and vanilla arouse your curiosity and senses while the layers of citrus peel, lemon custard and honey lure you in for a long, fresh, unforgettable, zippy, expansive, citrus drenched, bright finish. The wine was made from a blend of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon, reaching 14.75% alcohol with a pH of 3.2. 97 Pts
